The Guna community is welcoming to LGBTQIA+ individuals. We already admired the Guna culture for their numerous victories in maintaining sovereignty over their land, their efforts to keep large hotel developments off their islands, and their practice of ancestral traditions based on a nature based cosmovision, and their progressive views on sexuality are not an exception.

This culture is quite different from many others in the way they view sexuality and gender diversity. They traditionally recognize multiple gender roles beyond the binary classification of male and female. People who embody both masculine and feminine roles are described as "two spirit individuals". They have a unique perspective on gender and sexuality that emphasizes respect, community and acceptance. The openness is reflected in the way they approach love, same sex relationships, and community bonding.

An LGBT individual can opt for high positions in society, play important roles among the most prominent people in the community, perform any job without ever being judged or mistreated.

Our love and respect for the Guna people is immense, more so knowing how accepting they are of all of the members of their community. We've had gay and lesbian couples spend a few days aboard the boats with us and truly feel at ease both with the hosting crew and the Guna community hosts of this land on Panama's Caribbean sea. So if you belong to the LGBT community, know that we'd love to host you on our LGTB friendly sailing trips!
